I am a Family Consumer Science teacher at Cameron County Junior-Senior High School. I received my degree in December 2005 in Social Studies and minor in History from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. I substitute taught the remainder of the school as I transferred my Michigan certificate to Pennsylvania. I spent the 2006-2007 school year in Portland, Tennessee, as an assistant girls' dean at a private boarding academy. During the 2007-2008 school year, I substitute taught throughout McKean & Elk Counties in Pennsylvania as well as became certified in Family Consumer Science. I ended that year as a long term substitute in Kane High School. I have been teaching in Emporium, PA, since 2008.
During my summers, I work at Laurel Lake Camp in Rossiter, Pennsylvania. This will be my 13th summer working there, and I have held a variety of positions from child care, kitchen director, and nature director to my current job as lifeguard and office manager.
This e-Portfolio shows how I want to integrate new technologies in my classroom. I want to utilize these new ideas that I was introduced to in this course in my courses throughout the year. I have also included my integration plan that shows specific ways that I want to integrate some of these web 2.0 tools we learned about in this course into a lesson. I already teach this concept, but this updates the lesson into a new form that uses these resources. Throughout this course, we have used many resources that I regularly use such as Twitter (@alrettger) and Delicious (allison.rettger). I want to be able to open up these resources for my students to utilize next school year.
Throughout the Course:
I believe that teachers must constantly looking at towards the internet to find new and exciting resources. As teachers continue to update with technology, students will be more engaged. Students will also move onto more authentic assessments, real-life problem solving and collaboration between each other and others outside the classroom. I also want to find more ways students can assess and evaluate their learning especially by utilizing Google Doc Forms.
Goal before starting the course: I hope to find many new ideas that I can use to liven up my courses. During my LoTi survey I realized that I do not provide enough opportunities for students to have authentic assessments or digital opportunities to create unique things.
Goal after the course: I want to continue to find ways to integrate the NETS standards into my classes along with my regular academic standards. To achieve this, I want to put into place my integration at the beginning of next school year. I also want to utilize Twitter, wikispaces, glogster and e-mail to open up more communication between parents, students and myself.
